Chorionic gonadotropin or HCG is a glycoprotein existing in injectable form.
This molecule is found naturally in the urine of pregnant women.
Chorionic gonadotropin is medically used as a fertilizer in women (helps ovulation) and in all young children (helps the descent of the testicles).
Athletes became interested in it when they noticed that it was a hormonal stimulant that could be very useful after a cycle of anabolic steroids.
HCG is not an anabolic steroid but a complementary hormone that bodybuilders use as soon as a steroid cycle ends in order to avoid a metabolic crash.
Indeed, we have already described this type of accident in the context of generalities: anabolic steroids have the unfortunate consequence of putting the testicles to rest during the cycle.
This means that, as these steroids are androgens, they replace the action of testosterone, which ceases to be produced naturally in the testicles.
This phenomenon usually appears in cases where the cycle lasts more than 4 or 5 weeks. At the end of the cycle, the endogenous testosterone level has thus become dangerously low.
It is then urgent to bring this rate back to normal very quickly because after the sudden cessation of the steroid cycle, no product is left to play the role of testosterone.
This can lead to rapid loss of mass gained during the cycle and severe dehydration.
This is where chorionic gonadotropin comes in.
This has the effect of boosting the natural production of testosterone in the testicles.
HCG thus replaces the luteinizing hormone also called LH, which is normally responsible for triggering this production of testosterone, but which has been lacking since the steroid cycle.
On the other hand, if chorionic gonadotropin increases the production of endogenous testosterone, it unfortunately also increases the level of estrogen in the human body.
Gynecomastia is therefore common with this product.
In order to avoid this disease, users usually combine HCG in a stack with an anti-estrogen such as Nolvadex.
This hormone always comes in 2 separate ampoules.
One contains the powdered gonadotropin and the other a sterilized solvent.
It is of course necessary to mix these 2 ampoules to prepare the substance to be injected.
The mixture should be stored in the refrigerator.
Imitations of these products frequently cause pain and fever because they are most often made in an unsterilized environment.
The doses vary between 2500 and 5000 IU per week. Chorionic gonadotropin is usually injected once a week for 2 weeks, which is enough in most cases to restore normal testosterone levels.
